GROUP: FEATURE: SUB_FEATURE: INPUT:

  1. The MFD is configured with DHCP mode. 2. Wireshark is installed in the Server PC. 3. DHCP server is turned off or DHCP service is turned off from the DHCP server.
PROCEDURE:

  1. Wireshark trace is started on the Server PC and fllter applied for bootp.dhcp packets. 2. Verify from the trace that MFD broadcasts DHCP request packets within the network after the renewal timer expires on the network. 3. Since DHCP server is unavailable to process the request from MFD, MFD keeps on sending DHCP request packets to the server using MFD’s DHCP backoff algorithm refers to its algorithm used to space out repeated DHCP transmissions.. 4. Verify from the trace that the interval between the first attempt and second attempt is ~2 seconds. And this keeps on incremeting by twice the current interval muliplied by a random fraction between 0 and 1. the cut-off value for the time interval to grow is 15. 5. If no response is received within the DHCP lease timer expiration, the MFD will start DORA process to acquire a new lease.
OUTPUT:

The MFD’s DHCP backoff algorithm refers to its algorithm used to space out repeated DHCP transmissions. Each time a message is sent, the interval between messages is incremented by twice the current interval multiplied by a random fraction between zero and one
