OUTPUT: Printer icon in the Dock MUST be badged with an error or warning icon.  After clicking on the printer icon in the Dock, the window that appears MUST display the warning “The printer is almost out of ink” or “The printer is out of ink“ or “The printer is low on toner” or “The printer is out of toner” depending on the supply type. This MUST then be followed by the error “The paper tray needs to be filled” or “The printer tray is empty.” Depending on the printer’s mechanism for paper detection, the out of paper error may be presented first. macOS will show the proper error message, however both the warning and error must be reported by the printer. This should be verified with APVT using the far right column where printer-state-reasons are reported. 

The warning or error MUST disappear and the print job MUST complete without any operation such as holding and resuming the job.
